Originally from Philadelphia, arrived in New York about 1859. Worked with Frank Leslie for a year before being hired by Harper and Brothers. Well known for illustrations and caricatures. He was the founding artist for Vanity Fair. He drew for Mrs. Grundy, Punchinello and other magazines. He was also a watercolorist.
He published "The Comic Natural History of tjhe Human Race in Philadelphia before Moving to New York City To work for Frank Leslie and later Harper & Brothers.
Died in Bayonne, N.J at the age of 50.
