"Art editor for the New Yorker magazine for 21 years; creator of "Eustace Tilley," the top-hatted Regency dandy who appeared on the cover of the first issue of the New Yorker in 1925 and became the trademark of the magazine. He was also the creator of the clean, all-caps, Art Deco typeface, named "Irvin," that captured the spirit of the Jazz Age, and he was responsible for the general look and feel of the magazine."
