In the 1880s, Edward Kemble worked as a cartoonist and staff artist for the New York Daily Graphic, at that time the city’s only illustrated newspaper. He also was a frequent contributor to Life, with works such as this cartoon commentary on the manipulative control of the trusts. Cartoons such as this helped garner broad public support for President Theodore Roosevelt’s "trust-busting" policies.
