Alfred Frueh was a caricaturist who also painted, illustrated books, and designed magazine covers. In 1920 and 1921, Life magazine published a weekly drawing by Frueh of a leading character or performer in a current play. In 1925 he left The New York World and joined the fledgling The New Yorker, contributing to that publication until 1962.
