Born in Brooklyn, Paul Dougherty studied art in New York and at the Académie Julian in Paris. He traveled widely throughout his career and is known primarily for his dramatic marine scenes painted in a bold Impressionist style along the coasts of Maine; Cornwall, England; and the Monterey Coast.
