Curatorial RemarksIn September 1922, Wyeth, his brother Stimson, and his friend artist Sidney Chase spent a week in Port Clyde, staying at old sea captain's house that Chase and Wyeth had purchased together in 1920. This was the first stay of any length since the purchase, and Wyeth returned to Massachusetts (where he was then living) with nine canvases, most likely this view of the house among them. An archival photograph of the artist painting this picture is extant (Wyeth Family Archives; copy photography (P-110 ), Brandywine River Museum).
