Label Copy: Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dan Ostermiller focuses exclusively on animal forms, creating large-scale sculptures in bronze. The son of a taxidermist, the artist closely studied anatomy, and in his sculptures emphasizes the attributes of each animal. In R. B., (the initials R. B. refer to the artist's friend), Ostermiller creates an image of a dramatically oversized rabbit with exaggerated form and a calm, nonplussed expression.
Curatorial RemarksVirginia,

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you on "R.B." What an honor for Mr. Ostermiller to have a piece in your collection and what a nice gift for the museum. The large version is called "RB Monument." It was created in 2004 and is an edition of 12. There is a smaller version of "RB" that was created in 2002, is an edition of 20, and measures 11" x 10" x 9-1/2". As far as a concept goes Dan has always enjoyed sculpting rabbits. He made this piece especially to honor the lady who is the director of our other gallery and her name is Roberta Brashears, thus "RB." She has been a long time friend of Dan’s and sold countless numbers of his sculptures. In his mind "RB" captures Roberta’s attitude and grace. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.
