Curatorial RemarksThe present work is dated in accordance with evidence on a printed calendar for 1937. The completed painting is NCW 506; NCW 2285 depicts arm and hand studies for this image. Of the iron ware shown in the drawing, the spider (Brandywine River Museum, NCWS.95.1947) and the cauldron (NCWS.95.2053) remain in the artist's studio.
