Curatorial RemarksNCW 1161 is a related study of the figure of Thomas Jefferson, and NCW 279 is the final work, a picture of the Morrell & Company calendar "America in the Making."
The unsigned drawing was originally pasted into a scrapbook titled "Drawings & Sketches of N. C. Wyeth, NA," ordered by Andrew Wyeth and constructed for him by G. Alan Chidsey of Great Neck, NY. Wyeth presented the scrapbook to his mother at Christmas, 1946, but in the mid to late 1970s many of the drawings were removed and sold or given away.
