Curatorial RemarksBetsy James Wyeth identified the figure as Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941), musician and diplomat. The piece is related to NCW 2246.86 and 2246.87. See NCW to "Babe," Dec. 8, 1913, in which NCW implies that he saw Paderewski perform-- a reference perhaps to the concert Paderewski gave at Symphony Hall in Boston, Nov. 7, 1913 (see Boston Globe, Nov. 8, 1913).
