Curatorial RemarksWyeth made this sketch on the reverse of a piece of stationery to show fellow Pyle student Frank Schoonover how to depict a dead horse. Schoonover used the image to paint "Shorty Had the Best Position for Defense," an illustration for Outing Magazine, Dec. 1905 (Frank E. Schoonover catalogue raisonne #248). Oral history accounts say Schoonover painted Wyeth's hat into the picture at the lower left in tribute.
