Curatorial RemarksBelow the Viking ship, Wyeth painted a cartouche for the title and elaborate scroll work decorated with the Zodiac signs for Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries. A comparison of the proportions of the painting and the calendar reproduction suggest that this part of the design is extant but painted out. The Brandywine River Museum of Art holds an oversized archival photograph of the painting as originally conceived.
