This quirky self-caricature by Norman Rockwell was originally drawn as a decorative accent for the book Norman Rockwell: Illustrator by Arthur Guptill. With over 400 illustrations, the book was an important scholarly reference still being reprinted thirty years later due to popular demand. As if to offset the seriousness of the book, Rockwell added many incidental and marginal line drawings, including several self-deprecating portraits such as this.
