Curatorial RemarksThe illustrations for this story were the first Wyeth did for Harper's Monthly Magazine. In a letter to his mother the artist admits, "The Harper's work I am battling with. I have started two of them all over again much to my pleasure and relief as my first two attempts were failures (NCW to Henriette Zirngiebel Wyeth, April 2, 1905, Wyeth Family Archives).
