Curatorial RemarksWyeth was the only artist member of "The Committee on Publication of Stanley Arthurs Historical Paintings," organized in Wilmington, DE in 1934 to produce a printed tribute to Stanley Arthurs (1877 - 1950), a fellow Howard Pyle School student. In addition to soliciting written selections for the publication (for example, see N. C. Wyeth to Kenneth Roberts, Sept. 23, 1934, Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College), Wyeth contributed his own essay (based on Arthurs's painting "The Quiet Custom House") and this portrait.
