Curatorial RemarksA former owner believed that this image was used as a cover for Popular Magazine, however, no reproduction has been found. A letter dated May 2, 1919, from the artist to his family contains what may be a possible reference to this image: "took a sketch of two gunners and dogs in a cornfield to enter a sporting calendar competition in Wilmington" (Wyeth Family Archives).
The painting was destroyed by fire in December 2015.
