Curatorial RemarksThis painting was clearly a favorite of the artist. In a photograph filed with letters dated December 1911, it is shown hanging on the south wall in the living room of the Wyeth house; the painting is in the same position in a 1917 photograph (both, Wyeth Family Archives). From the photographs, the frame appears to be a rather heavy, deep gilt molding with a substantial light-colored liner.
Markings on the stretcher suggest that the painting was exhibited at the Philadelphia Sketch Club. The markings do not correspond to the catalogue listing (see NCW 250, 935 and 936 which also do not correspond) but the most likely entry would be "No. 3, Spring Sunlight".
