Curatorial RemarksIt is impossible with current information to positively link this painting with "Forest by the Sea-Maine," shown at the Wilmington Society of the Fine Art's February 1925 exhibition. The owner of the painting from 1963 to at least 1993 (who inherited it from the first owner) called it "Maine Woods" and an examination in the mid-1990s revealed no marks or inscriptions on the reverse that could have served as the authority for a different title.
