Curatorial RemarksThis image, which appeared in the 1916 Star Company publication, was not published in the Hearst's Magazine serialization which ran from August through December 1916. The first owner of this painting was an electrician who worked for the artist during the 1930s. Linder had been injured during the battle of Chateau Thierry and it was his first hand account which Wyeth relied upon while painting "The Americans at Château-Thierry," NCW 1398 (John L. Linder to C. B. Podmaniczky, April 4, 2006, Brandywine River Museum curatorial files).
