Curatorial RemarksWyeth gave this painting to the man who farmed the property just east of the property the Wyeths rented in Chadds Ford from April 1908 to March 1911; in Wyeth's letters the spelling is "Sheatz" (Betsy James Wyeth, The Wyeths, The Letters of N. C. Wyeth, 1901-1945, Boston: Gambit, p. 221).
The work was examined in 2009 for evidence that the painting might have been included in Wyeth's Sketch Club exhibition of November, 1912, but no related marks on the stretchers were found.
