Curatorial RemarksThe order for this image was placed by the Forbes Litho Company on Nov. 28, 1942, "1 finished painting, center picture, Wall Chart, #1 in Transportation series"--the work to be completed b y the 3rd week in December.
The charcoal composition drawing (NCW 1360) for this image is extant and the Brandywine River Museum holds the "reduced photostat of the entire composition of Wall Chart #1" which was sent to the artist for his approval (H. W. Hardy of Forbes Litho Co., to NCW, Jan. 14, 1943, Wyeth Family Archives). In July 1943, Forbes mailed the artist 3 of Wall Chart #1, but none of the copies were found in the studio in 1994-1996. (Forbes to NCW, July 12, 1943, WFA).
