Curatorial RemarksUntil 2012, the painting was known only from a photographic contact sheet in the Wyeth Family Archives. No dates or other notations accompanied the image which was attributed to NCW by Betsy James Wyeth. The painting came to light in 2012, having been purchased from the collection of Carolyn Wyeth.
The work has the feel of Chadds Ford Sunday (NCW 930) and could date as early as 1904. Close study of the photograph suggests that the landscape may have been painted over another image, but no formal study has confirmed the hypothesis.
