Curatorial RemarksAlthough this panel was purchased on August 11, 1938, along with eight other panels used for the series, the painting does not appear among 11 recorded in the artist's 1939 income tax notes for the Morrell & Company commission (library, Brandywine River Museum). The Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.162) of the composition drawing which the artist used to transfer the design from paper to panel; and a mounted proof, stamped on the reverse: THIS DESIGN / IS SUBMITTED BY / NIAGARA LITHO. CO. / NEW YORK / WHO RESERVE THE / EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO ITS / REPRODUCTION AND TO / WHOM IT MUST BE / RETURNED. / NO. (added in ink) 41061 (NCWS.95.6562).
