Curatorial RemarksNote that this book was originally published in 2 volumes, one for the 7th grade and one for the 8th grade, in 1921. (Copies held at Millbank Library, Columbia University). These earlier editions have not been examined, but may prove that painting dates from ca. 1921.
Given the rather universal nature of the subject matter, it's likely that this painting was done for another use--possibly a magazine cover--and then sold to Ginn & Company.
