Curatorial RemarksThis is probably the third of four similar subjects Wyeth did during his career, the earlier two being NCW 2383 and NCW 1317. The last (NCW 995) appeared as an image for Country Gentleman in June 1944. No publication citation for this image has been found, and the family in which it descended believes it was never used. The date is based on a stylistic assessment and the period in which the first owner, a New York lithographer, was associated with the artist.
