Curatorial RemarksThe view is looking west from the house N. C. Wyeth rented in Chadds Ford between April 1908 through March 1911 to the village. The painting is dated by its similarity to NCW 45; Wyeth painted the same view in winter (NCW 214). Betsy James Wyeth reproduced a photograph of this view in "The Wyeths, The Letters of N. C. Wyeth, 1901-1945 (Boston: Gambit, 1971, p. 250) from the Wyeth Family Archives.
This painting was examined by the owner in 2008 for notations on the stretcher similar to those that appear on paintings that were included in Wyeth's Philadelphia Sketch Club exhibition of 1912. No marks were recorded, but the owner did not note whether the stretcher was original.
