Curatorial RemarksAllen and Allen notes this work was done for E. R. Squibb & Company, however, the artist's correspondence (NCW to Andrew Wyeth, Feb. 9, 1944, Wyeth Family Archives) and correspondence between James P. Simpson and Squibb (Brandywine River Museum library) make it clear that the work promoted a Sharp & Dohme product. The Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.204) of the composition drawing that was used in the transfer of the image from paper to panel, and a poster mounted on cardboard (25 5/8 x 16 in.) with text: Sharp & Dohme / 'Lyovac' Normal Human Plasma / First in War...(BRM library, # 8956).
