Curatorial RemarksThis work came onto the market as an N. C. Wyeth painting, and there is no question it was painted by a Wyeth family member; two of the objects depicted are still in N. C. Wyeth's studio (bottle, NCWS.95.1552; blue cup, one of a set, NCWS.95.1509). The composition with the teapot abruptly cut off is unusual for N. C. Wyeth, which may suggest another hand (the teapot does not continue into the tacking edge so the still life is not a fragment of a larger arrangement). Henriette, Carolyn, and Andrew Wyeth all practiced still life painting in their father's studio. Attempts to establish the earlier portion of the provenance have not been successful.
