Curatorial RemarksThis image, 9 1/4 inches in diameter, was probably done on a larger canvas that also included a major vignette (NCW 2458) and another circular picture of the other main character in the story (NCW 2459). It is not known when the canvas was cut and the separate images were mounted on hardboard supports.
The first owner of the painting, illustrator Charles Hargens, Jr. (1893-1997), also worked for Curtis Publishing.
