Label Copy: Karl J. Kuerner, like his mentor Andrew Wyeth, celebrated the people and the landscape of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. In this wintery view, Kuerner captures not just the look of a snowy farm, but also the bitter chill of the wind that causes the evergreen branch in the foreground to sway and bounce. The nostalgic frosted glass ornaments featuring Christmas trees, Santa and his reindeer, and snowmen appear to dance in the wind. One can imagine the faint jingle of their motion in a scene otherwise muted by the falling snow.
Curatorial RemarksKarl J. Kuerner studied with Carolyn Wyeth and at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. He is the grandson of Andrew Wyeth's subjects, Karl and Anna Kuerner. He lives in Chadds Ford and primarily paints landscape and portraits.

This work depicts the historic Kuerner farm whose land, buildings and inhabitants were made famous in a very large portion of Andrew Wyeth's work. The farm was donated to the Brandywine Conservancy, parent organization of the Brandywine River Museum and opened to the public in 2004.
