Curatorial RemarksThis drawing may have been used to create a presentation oil sketch (unlocated), done in 1940; and then used again in the transfer of the design from paper to canvas when the artist painted the mural (NCW 452) in 1941. The Brandywine River Museum holds a tracing of this drawing (96.1.82) from which lantern slides, used in the process of transferring the design from paper to canvas, were made.
The drawing corresponds to the mural as originally conceived, showing the placement of doors within the image. When the mural was removed from the wall, the canvas was consolidated to its present appearance.;
