Curatorial RemarksThis is the lower portion of a composition that resulted in NCW 1322, a painting for an advertisement commissioned by Frankfort Distilleries. The upper portion (NCW 2089) is privately held, and it is not known when or by whom the two pieces were separated. The original appearance of the drawing is shown in a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.197) held by the Brandywine River Museum, and used by the artist to transfer the design from paper to painting support.
