Curatorial RemarksThe authority for the title comes from Andrew Wyeth, who confirmed that an entry in Betsy James Wyeth's ca. 1976 inventory of N. C. Wyeth drawings stored in the Wyeth barn pertains to this work. Andrew Wyeth believed that his father completed a painting after the present work with the same title, but there is no other evidence to support this assertion.
The stamp on the reverse of the drawing suggests that Wyeth tried to sell the image (before executing a painting) to American Artists Company, his New York agents in the 1940s, thus accounting for the circa date.
