Curatorial RemarksIn relation to this drawing, Wyeth wrote from Port Clyde to Ann Wyeth McCoy, "The studios are organized...and I've initiated mine with two successful compositions which are with Sanborn's now for slides" (June 28, 1939, Wyeth Family Archives). The lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.250, Brandywine River Museum) of this drawing was probably used in the transfer of the design to the panels for both the 1939 (NCW 608) and 1941 (NCW 1426) versions. NCW 2204 would appear to be an early composition study.
