Curatorial RemarksThe Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide of the drawing (NCWS.95.1825.98), used in the transfer of the design from paper to canvas (NCW 1389). The cover design as printed wrapped around the book's spine and required an image of different proportions, suggesting that the drawing has been trimmed on the left side, or that the final design was selected after this drawing was executed.
