A prolific sculptor who spent his career in Wilmington, Delaware, Charles Parks was known for his large-scale sculptures, including portraits of historical and political figures. He was particularly recognized for his depictions of children surrounded by animals. A resounding theme running through his work was the complex relationship between human beings and the natural world. In this sculpture Parks intended the grouping of the young boy, hawk and doves to symbolize the importance of balance and harmony between the human and natural worlds.
