Curatorial RemarksSIGNATURE. AML NOTES 1/5/24:: While writing label copy for the exhibition, The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth in December 2017, Audrey Lewis suggested that the date of the watercolor be changed from 1965 to 1967. This watercolor depicts Weymouth’s then wife, Anna Brelsford McCoy, on the beach at Boca Grande, Florida, reading Our Crowd (by Stephen Birmingham, published 1967), a very popular book at the time. Further notes: Notes: Anson Beard indicated that he had purchased the painting in 1965 from Country Art Gallery (Locust Valley, Long Island, NY). It was titled “Best Seller,” The date seems to be incorrect as the book that is supposedly shown here is Our Crowd (according to Frolic) and it was published June 1967. It became a best seller.
