Curatorial RemarksThe ink wash used to create this drawing suggests that it was done prior to Wyeth's arrival at the Howard Pyle School of Art, when that was a common medium for the young artist. Wyeth painted another bronco buster shortly after arriving in Wilmington (see NCW 1078) which he signed "Sketch - 1902" -- this bronco buster, in oil on canvas, is clearly based on the earlier version but far more sophisticated in composition and materials. The second version was preparatory to a third rendition, completed in early 1903 and reproduced on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post.
