Curatorial RemarksThe piece was removed from the N. C. Wyeth studio in September 1995. In January 2008 it was examined by Andrew Wyeth, who confirmed it was the early work of N. C. Wyeth. NCW 2550-2557 and NCW 2246.225 seem to be related and were probably done during the same period. NCW 2556 is a view further away from the same bridge.
In the Wyeth Family Archives is a photograph of a similar bridge, presumably one over the Charles River in Needham. The photograph shows N. C. Wyeth and his cousin Henry Holzer in a canoe with the bridge in the background. The photograph is dated "about 1896."
