Curatorial RemarksLong Title: or, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy; "Originally [sic] published in "Little Women", republished in Boys and Girls in Bookland." According to Schnessell, books such as Boys and Girls in Bookland or series illustrations were among the most important of Smith's works. ALewis CORRECTION TO ABOVE 1/3/24: object file indicates that this painting was NOT originally painted for the book "Little Women," which was publishjed by Little Brown & Company in 1915. Rather, it was used as an illustration for "Boys and Girls of Bookland" by Nora Archibald Smith (David McKay Company, 1923) as well as for the cover of the February 1923 issue of Good Housekeeping.
