Curatorial RemarksPaone is a Philadelphia native with a long and successful career as both an artist and teacher at the Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts. The portrait represents a strength and duality in the way Paone depicted himself, at once bold and vulnerable. This joins two other works by Paone in the collection: Mother and Son (2020.3/acrylic on panel) and its accompanying study (2020.5/graphite on paper). The acrylic painting was shown in a small, highly successful Halloween-themed exhibition of Paone’s work at Brandywine in 2019.
