This is a watercolor sketch for the Brandywine’s tempera James Loper. While the large tempera is concentrated on the Chadds Ford resident leaning against a wooden shed, the study is focused on the shed itself, seen in full and from a distance. The watercolor is fascinating as it demonstrates Wyeth’s practice of making individual studies as he worked toward the final composition.
Curatorial RemarksChicken Wire (Wagon on the Dunes) is another study of James Loper that is located at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.
