This is a watercolor sketch for the Brandywine’s tempera James Loper. While the large tempera is concentrated on the Chadds Ford resident leaning against a wooden shed, the study is focused on the shed itself, seen in full and from a distance. The watercolor is fascinating as it demonstrates Wyeth’s practice of making individual studies as he worked toward the final composition.
