Curatorial RemarksDouglas Allen and Douglas Allen, Jr., attribute these drawings to "GMB" and note that each is initaled. The Allens were not aware of a letter written by NCW to his mother and father saying, "Outing expects a great deal of me...also to make a title page with a symbolical Indian figure on it in pen and ink" (NCW to Henriette Zirngiebel Wyeth and Andrew Newell Wyeth, April 10, 1906, Wyeth Family Archives). While this does not confirm that Wyeth actually did the drawings, the letter at least proves that at one point Outing expected Wyeth to produce them. Other researchers have failed to locate the "GMB" within the two small reproductions.
