Curatorial Remarks"I am mailing to-day (parcel post) the title page ink drawing. I think it is much more to the point. I have selected the Osprey (or, as they call it in Maine -- fish hawk) for the motive. This bird is common all over the state, lakes, rivers, and the seaboard -- so are spruces. I think the drawing has spirit. Pardon the rather elaborate package, but the drawing is on rather fragile paper and so easy to break if the mount should bend. I did half a dozen and the best sketch turned up on this soft paper" (NCW to Roger L. Scaife, Dec. 20, 1937, Courtesy of Douglas Allen).
