Curatorial RemarksThe drawing was photographed matted and not visible is the addition of paper along the bottom (3 inches) and right side (2 1/2 inches) to increase the size of the design. The additions are shown in a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.107, Brandywine River Museum) of the drawing, used in the transfer of the image from paper to panel (NCW 1377).
The added watercolor is unusual in Wyeth's charcoal drawings, and while it's impossible to tell for certain in the black and white lantern slide, it looks as though the watercolor had been added prior to photography.
