Curatorial RemarksThis picture was initially not to the liking of the editors at Success. In a letter dated Sept. 21, 1903, the artist told his mother, "...the men at the desk (showing maps) [had to be] touched up and changed in shape somewhat, that is, the shape of the picture." Wyeth was learning that the demands of the printing and publishing businesses placed certain constraints on the artist.
