Curatorial RemarksOn August 9, 1903, N. C. Wyeth reported to his mother that he had received a letter from Albert Hencke of Success offering him "a very important serial story" to illustrate, providing he could have 3 paintings to him by September 1st. The first installment of "The Duke of Cameron Avenue" appeared in the November issue of Success with three illustrations, one by N. C. Wyeth and two by Arthur E. Jameson. One of the Jameson pictures depicts the same scene in the story as the Wyeth picture, which puzzled the young artist. "I don't see why in the world they published two of the same subject," he wrote to his mother, "but I suppose they fill up a certain space. They seemed to like the one I did anyway."
