Curatorial RemarksIn August, 1909, Wyeth wrote, "Have past (sic) a very busy and productive week finishing my gray day landscape of old willow and oak..." (NCW to Henriette Z. Wyeth, dated "Saturday 10 A.M." by NCW, in another hand Aug. 10, 1909, Wyeth Family Archives). Andrew Wyeth identified the location as a site behind the property NCW rented in Chadds Ford from April 1908 through March 1911. The painting appears in a photograph of the interior of the home the Wyeths built in 1911, hanging over the sideboard in the dining area (filed before letter of Jan. 1, 1919, Wyeth Family Archives).
