Curatorial RemarksThis view seems to be related to another landscape (not identified) the artist contemplated during the summer of 1909. Wyeth described in a letter a motif he had decided to paint, a view "toward the village, with a small bridge in the middle distance and a willow directly back of it and then the hills and clouds (NCW to Henriette Zirngiebel Wyeth, Aug. 15, 1909, WFA). The letter includes a small sketch of the motif, which differs from the present work in that the brook in the sketch runs perpendicular to the picture plane.
