Curatorial RemarksTo paint this illustration for Scribner's, the artist used a canvas on which he had already painted an image published earlier in Everybody's Magazine (see NCW 1656). The presence of the underimage was confirmed by xradiography at Winterthur Museum in 2000 by Richard C. Wolbers.
